Lisbon to Algarve Private Transfer with Stops:
Comporta, Arrábida or Alcácer do Sal on the Way

The motorway from Lisbon to the Algarve is fast and empty, and it bypasses everything. Take it with a driver-guide instead: the Arrábida ridge above Setúbal, the castle and storks of Alcácer do Sal, the rice fields and the beach at Comporta, two hours at each stop, then straight to your hotel or villa in Albufeira, Armação de Pêra, Portimão, Alvor, Ferragudo or Lagos. Fixed price per car, tolls included, no train change at Tunes. The same service runs from the Algarve to Lisbon, at the same price.

Your day, hour by hour

How the journey works

Your driver-guide meets you at your Lisbon address at the agreed time (we suggest 9:00 for the options with stops) and loads the luggage. Stops happen in geographic order from north to south: Setúbal with the Arrábida ridge, Alcácer do Sal, Comporta. From the Algarve the order is reversed. Comporta is reached by the A2 and the N253 through the rice fields, never by ferry. Arrival at your hotel or villa in the Central zone (Albufeira, Armação de Pêra) or the Western zone (Portimão, Alvor, Ferragudo, Lagos).

Before you book

Stops, luggage and who this is for

Good to know

The price is per vehicle and the same in both directions; it depends on the zone of your Algarve address (Central: Albufeira, Armação de Pêra; Western: Portimão, Alvor, Ferragudo, Lagos). The number of stops is the option you book, the places are yours to choose from the list, in the natural order along the route. From 4 June to 15 September the Arrábida beach roads are closed to cars, so the summer stop is the ridge, the viewpoints and Setúbal's Livramento market (closed on Mondays). Comporta is a beach and a lunch, not a monument; in July and August the beach car parks fill up early. Pickup at Lisbon Airport costs the same as a hotel pickup; give us the flight number and we track it. Luggage stays locked in the vehicle while you walk. Not suitable for wheelchair users; strollers and infant seats on request.

Questions

Common questions, answered.

How long is the drive from Lisbon to the Algarve?

Lisbon to Albufeira is about 256 km on the A2, around 2 h 45 to 3 hours. Portimão is 281 km and Lagos 296 km, about 3 h 15. The A22 across the Algarve has been toll-free since January 2025. With one two-hour stop count 5 to 6 hours door to door; with three stops, about 8 h 30 to 9 hours.

Is Comporta worth a stop on the way to the Algarve?

Yes, as a scenic and lunch stop rather than a sightseeing one. From the A2 exit at Alcácer do Sal, the N253 crosses rice fields with nesting storks to the village, the beach and the Carrasqueira stilt pier. It adds about 48 km and an hour of driving, and needs no ferry. In July and August the beach car parks fill early.

Is there a direct train from Lisbon to Lagos or Albufeira?

No. Trains from Lisbon require a change at Tunes, run about five times a day with compulsory reservation, and Albufeira's station at Ferreiras is 6 to 7 km from the resort. Lagos is 4 hours by train. A private transfer is door to door in about 3 hours and carries the luggage.

Do I pay tolls between Lisbon and the Algarve?

The A2 costs 23.80 euro for a car and 41.65 euro for a van in 2026, the same for Albufeira, Portimão and Lagos because the A22 is free. The Lisbon bridges are charged only when driving into Lisbon: 2.25 euro on the 25 de Abril and 3.40 euro on the Vasco da Gama. Swingo includes every toll.

Can we visit the Arrábida beaches on the way in summer?

Not by private car. From 4 June to 15 September, 07:00 to 20:00, the Arrábida beach roads are closed to private vehicles under the Arrábida Sem Carros programme, with a free shuttle from Creiro. The ridge road and the viewpoints stay open, so the summer stop is the Serra da Arrábida and Setúbal's Livramento fish market, open Tuesday to Sunday mornings.

What is there to see in Alcácer do Sal?

A hilltop castle with the Pousada and an archaeological crypt, closed on Mondays, the church of Santa Maria do Castelo, and a riverfront on the Sado with storks and boat trips. It sits 11 km off the A2, about 1 h 05 from Lisbon, and pairs naturally with Comporta, 30 km further along the N253.

Can you drop us at a villa in Alvor, Ferragudo or Armação de Pêra?

Yes. Swingo prices the Algarve in two zones, Central for Albufeira and Armação de Pêra and Western for Portimão, Alvor, Ferragudo and Lagos, and drops you at any address in the zone, hotel or villa, at the zone price. Pickup can be your Lisbon hotel or Lisbon Airport.

How much is a private transfer from Lisbon to Albufeira or Lagos?

Swingo's direct private transfer is 421 euro per vehicle to the Central Algarve and 483 euro to the Western Algarve, for up to three travellers, tolls included. Adding a first two-hour scenic stop with a driver-guide takes those to 524 and 589. Vans for 4 to 8 travellers are priced separately and shown before you pay.

Is a private transfer cheaper than the train for a family of four?

Often, yes, once you add four train tickets, the taxi to Lisbon's Oriente or Entrecampos station, the change at Tunes and the taxi from Ferreiras or Lagos station to your hotel. The private transfer is one price per vehicle, door to door, with room for luggage and child seats.

Can 8 people travel together with luggage?

Yes. A van carries 4 to 8 travellers with luggage; for 9 to 15 travellers Swingo sends two vehicles at a combined price. Child seats are provided on request at no extra cost.

When should I book a Lisbon to Algarve transfer for summer?

As early as possible for July and August, which set records in 2026 with about 3 million overnight stays in July alone. Book at least a few weeks ahead for peak dates, and tell us your flight number for airport pickups so the driver tracks delays.
