The Swingo way
Lisbon looks easy until you reach Belém. The Jerónimos Monastery runs on controlled, timed entry and the queue at the door reaches 60 to 120 minutes in peak season. Belém Tower reopened on 26 May 2026 with entry capped at 900 visitors a day, and since then there is no ticket office at the Tower at all: sales moved to the Monastery desk and the model favours booking online with a fixed slot. Belém also sits six kilometres west of the centre, with its sights strung along the riverfront.
Almost nobody pre-books both tickets properly, and that single failure is what turns a good day in the capital into a day spent in line. On the ticket options we reserve both slots the moment your booking comes in, and we drive you the six kilometres so the timing is ours to manage, not yours.

What you'll see
A Manueline monastery commissioned by King Manuel I around 1501, after Vasco da Gama returned from India, and his resting place. The church of Santa Maria de Belém is free; the cloisters and exhibition spaces need a paid, timed ticket. UNESCO World Heritage since 1983.
The fortified tower built between 1514 and 1519 by Francisco de Arruda to guard the mouth of the Tagus, and the postcard image of the Age of Discovery. Reopened in May 2026 after a year of restoration, with a single spiral staircase and a strict daily cap.
Lisbon's oldest quarter, walked on foot: the Sé Cathedral, the old lanes, and the Portas do Sol and Santa Luzia viewpoints below São Jorge Castle. Cobbles and steep streets, and the view most travellers came to Lisbon for.
Your day, hour by hour
The full day, stop by stop, is below. The shorter length follows the same order with fewer stops, and you will find it under the timeline.
We collect you at your hotel, private address, the cruise port or Lisbon airport. Your driver-guide greets you in your language, bottled water in hand.
The Manueline monastery commissioned around 1501, and Vasco da Gama's resting place. On the ticket options your timed entry is pre-booked, so you walk in at a fixed time instead of queueing at the door; on the Standard you see the exterior and the free church of Santa Maria de Belém.
The fortified tower on the Tagus, reopened in May 2026 with entry capped at 900 visitors a day. On the ticket options the timed slot is reserved when you book; on the Standard we take in the riverside exterior.
The monument to the Discoveries on the riverfront, with the compass rose laid out on the ground beside it. Exterior visit.
The original custard tarts, made to the same recipe since 1837, at your own expense. Your driver-guide tells you how to order like a local.
The terraced viewpoint over the centre, with the castle hill and the river laid out in front of you.
Lisbon's oldest quarter, walked slowly: the Sé Cathedral, the old lanes, and the Portas do Sol and Santa Luzia viewpoints. Cobbles and steep streets, so comfortable shoes matter here.
The viewpoints and the quarter around the castle. The interior is not included, and we can pre-buy the ticket if you want it.
At your own expense, with your driver-guide's suggestions, away from the tourist menus.
The viewpoint above the castle and the quarter where fado was born, on the way back down into the city.
The old industrial complex under the 25 de Abril bridge, now full of bookshops, studios and street art.
Across the river on the south bank, with the whole city and the bridge in one frame. Time allowing.
Back where we started. Your driver-guide shares favourite dinner and fado spots before saying goodbye.

Questions
Yes. The Jerónimos Monastery runs on controlled, timed entry, and in peak season the queue at the door reaches 60 to 120 minutes. On the ticket options we reserve your slot the moment your booking comes in, so you arrive at a fixed time and walk straight past the ticket line.
Yes, it is open. Belém Tower reopened on 26 May 2026 after a year of restoration, with phased access: up to 60 visitors every half hour, a ceiling of 900 a day, from 9.30am to 5.30pm, and last entry at 5pm. A pre-booked timed ticket is the only reliable way in.
No. Since the May 2026 reopening there is no ticket office at the Tower at all. Presential sales moved to the Jerónimos Monastery desk, and the model favours buying online with a fixed slot. On the ticket options we reserve both slots for you when you book.
About six kilometres west of the centre, with the sights strung along the riverfront rather than grouped together. Getting there and between them is what eats the day for most visitors. We drive you, so the six kilometres and the timing of your two tickets are ours to manage.
The Half-Day is about five and a half hours: Belém, the Padrão, a pastel de Belém, a viewpoint over the centre, Alfama on foot and the castle hill. The Full-Day is about nine hours, the same spine at an easier pace, plus lunch, Graça and Mouraria, LX Factory and the Cristo Rei viewpoint.
The ticket options do: the combined Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower timed entry, reserved at booking. On the Standard options admissions are excluded and you book your own Jerónimos slot well in advance. The tickets add €60 per person, on both the Half-Day and the Full-Day.
Yes. We pick up at the cruise port and at Lisbon airport and we carry your luggage. Send the ship or flight details at booking and we plan the day around them, with the drop-off synced to your departure. The Half-Day is the length most cruise calls and layovers allow.
The Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower are both closed on Mondays, and the Tower also closes on 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May, 13 June and 25 December. On those days the day runs as the Standard route: the exteriors, the Padrão, the viewpoints, Alfama and the castle hill.
The castle hill is, the castle interior is not. We walk the quarter below it and stop at the Portas do Sol and Santa Luzia viewpoints, which is the view most travellers came to Lisbon for. If you want the interior, we can pre-buy the ticket, around €15 per adult.
Alfama and the castle hill are walked on foot, on cobbles and steep streets, so bring comfortable shoes. The tour is not wheelchair accessible. Infant seats are available on request, service animals are allowed, and a version with considerably less walking can be arranged. Tell us at booking.
